Thermal Glazing

Conservatory Glass      Double Glazing      Thermal Glazing      Self Cleaning

Double-glazed windows are essentially two panes of glass as opposed to the usual single pane. Usually a gas with good insulation properties - such as argon - is used to fill the space between the panes, which enhances the thermal control properties of the window. However, there is now widely available in Ireland, a more advanced option call thermal glazing.

Thermal glass, is glass that has been treated to have a low emissivity, reducing overall thermal conductivity. The most common way of producing thermal glass is by coating it with an infrared reflective coating, which prevents the heat escaping through the glass.

Many homeowners choose thermal glass for their conservatories, as they get especially cold in winter. What is really appealing is that it can be combined with self- cleaning solar control products in order to make the most of a conservatory all year round.

The primary advantage of installing thermal glass is its ability to keep cold air out and warm air in. Effectively this means you could save significant amounts of money on your heating bills as your heating system will not have to work as hard to maintain the room's temperature.

As explained above, installing low-e thermal glass, whether double glazed or not, significantly reduces your heating bills. This not only saves you money, but can make a positive contribution to environmental conservation since less energy is consumed.

The glass in your windows absorbs heat then radiates it again on the colder, outside, surface. Thermal glass has a so-called low emissivity coating which is positioned on surface 3 (counting from the outside) of the Insulating Glass Unit (IGU).

The low emissivity coating is a poor radiator of heat. So the heat absorbed by the coated glass does not travel across the air gap to the outer pane and the cold outside world. Instead the coating reflects the heat back into the room.

Windows incorporating thermal glass allow heat from the sun through and keep heat inside, making it easier and more cost effective to keep buildings warm.
