Shutters

Shutters in conservatories or sunrooms have a limited application. In modern design of these rooms, the most popular window coverings are blinds. This is because you generally have a vast expanse of glass to cover and the physical problems of merging the need for lots of light with need for shading on hot days and providing warmth on cold evenings are impossible to satisfy.

Shutters are ascetically pleasing in sunrooms that have solid wall space between the windows. They will add character to the room and in this way; they will look symmetrical with what they are enclosing.

Shuttered windows were conventionally used in the sunrooms of old Georgian or Victorian houses. Modern neo-styles buildings can emulate the effect of course, but it would be foolish to think that they could work in all applications of modern sunrooms. The downside to shutters is their failure to retain heat. Despite great advances in window insulation, there is always an element of heat loss through them.

Compared to all types of blinds, or even drapes, shutters allow more heat to leave the room. At the end of the day, you have to balance this cost against their undoubted appeal.
