Conservatory Blinds

It may seen ironic that every years thousands of Irish people build conservatories or sunrooms to allow in light and heat and then find themselves going to the trouble and expense of buying blinds to keep the same light and heat out!

We are being facetious of course.

The very act of opening up a room to sunlight attracts all the good elements and benefits of the sun but also brings the harmful effects such UV exposure; excessive glare and uncontrollable heat build up.

To counteract all that, there are, it seems, about a million types of blinds on the Irish market and making the right choice requires great consideration.

Making the wrong choice is very expensive, so research is the key factor.

In this section, we explore the many options that are available to the Irish consumer.

The mushrooming of retail parks on edge of towns and cities around Ireland had brought with an invasion of UK multiples offering every conceivable item in the line of home décor and therefore advice is not very far away.

Also, the advertisers on this site can offer great choice and the benefit of virtual tours to enhance the process of selecting the right materials.

A budget for blinds in a conservatory will be much higher than your sunroom.

In the conservatory, your first priority is the ceiling. Here you will need attractive but effective protection from the sun, otherwise you will get heat and glare accumulation that, apart from creating great discomfort, causes damage by fading the furniture and fittings in your room. These blinds out of necessity will operate by electronic remote control.

The ceiling blinds need to be attractive and complement the wall window blinds, though not necessarily match them.

Vertical window blinds are there to provide privacy and retain heat and well as providing the décor element to the room. The window blinds come in a range of materials and colours that we examine in detail in this section.

Roman blinds of various compositions are probably the most popular in Ireland. Pleated blinds are also gaining ground in choice and selection in the Irish market.

Roller blinds or shutters together with traditional drapes also are a very common presence in Irish sunrooms and conservatories.

Cost is about as measurable as the proverbial length of a piece of string.

Again, it goes back to what we said in the Design section. Do not ruin the room with cheap or shoddy blinds when all else around you is stunning.

Do your budget to allow all cost from start to finish. It is an unwise exercise to allow just for the building of the conservatory or room. You must cost the construction and fit out at the start of the project and it must enhance what has gone before. Do not run out of funding before the end and demean all of the good work already done.
